A central truth of the Christian life
Repentance is one of the foundations of the Christian life. Yet, it is often misunderstood. For some, it is merely a feeling of remorse or overwhelming guilt; for others, an abstract religious concept. But according to the Word of God, repentance is something quite different: it is a profound spiritual act, a return to God, a movement of the heart that transforms life, heals the soul, and opens the door to a restored relationship with the Creator.
In the vision of the Church House of Nations , centered on personal transformation and spiritual growth, repentance occupies an essential place. It is the first step towards new life in Christ, but also an ongoing stance in the disciple's journey.
“Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out.” Acts 3:19
Repentance: a profound change of heart
Changing direction, not just regretting. In biblical language, repentance means changing one's mind, changing direction, turning away from sin to return to God.
This is not simply a matter of emotional remorse, but a profound movement:
Acknowledging sin
To sincerely regret the wrong done
Reject what separates us from God
Returning to Him in faith and obedience.
The fruits of true repentance
When repentance is genuine, it produces visible changes:
a more tender heart towards God
a purified conscience
a renewed commitment
a life that progresses towards holiness
a growing inner freedom
a new joy in the presence of God
Repentance does not crush: it liberates.
Conclusion
Repentance is a divine gift. It is the hand God extends to every human being to lead them back to life, truth, and freedom. When we come to Him with sincerity, He never rejects a broken and humble heart. His grace restores, transforms, and renews.
